@Scot: Indeed, the "United Hollywood":http://www.unitedhollywood.com/crumb.html page is a really good summary. Just to relate it to your first comment, the FAQ explains that that most writers do _not_ make six figures, that indeed a more fair assessment of writers' wages comes out to more like $30K/year. A living wage in some places, but hard to live on almost anywhere in California.

More to the point, writers should be paid commensurate with the value that is produced by their work. Right now the big six media corporations don't want to pay them _at all_ for their work, when it's used on the Internet. That's -- frankly -- stealing.

Just following up ... I got curious and decided to learn more about what's behind the writers' strike. Took a while to find anything substantial, but eventually found this, which was a real eye-opener. I'm now on the writers' side.

Don't forget that the writers are generally already making well into the six figures! It's one thing to appreciate them... another to figure how *much* we appreciate them.

Is this "equal work for equal pay" or a bunch of already-rich, greedy whiners? A friend who's recently done a stint working as a producer close to the scene thinks it's the latter.

WE WRITE THE STORIA
FOR EVA LONGORIA!

@Rochelle: Agreed, of course. It's the writers who makes TV worth watching. I still think David Hyde Pierce's acceptance speech for one of his Emmy Awards, thanking the writers, was one of the best awards show speeches of all time. I'll repeat what I wrote in the (longish) article:

bq. "Puppies?" Yes, _Puppies._ I would *never* illegally download commercial videos, and neither should you.

But, of course, don't be downloading from the internet until the writers are paid for it.

Support the Strike! www.unitedhollywood.com

My favorite strike slogan:
WHAT DO WE WANT? RESIDUALS!
WHEN DO WE WANT 'EM? LATER!
